Bear Lake Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Billing Specialist to provide various business office functions for the hospital and to ensure proper billing practices are in place and followed effectively and efficiently.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answering miscellaneous questions from staff, families and patients.
- Learning and completing all steps of the billing process to ensure accuracy in bills and payments.
- Effectively provide billing practices throughout the hospital to maintain billing integrity
- Working with insurance companies to ensure proper billing processes take place.
- Communicating with patients regarding their bill.
- Adhering to all government regulations pertaining to patient privacy including HIPAA.
- Working in a professional, confidential manner.
- Staying on top of proper billing practices through meetings, seminars, conferences, coworker discussions, bulletins, tutorials, and web based educational material.
- Reconcile charge entry or payment discrepancies.
- Understand and incorporate government regulations into daily activities.
- When appropriate, directing patients to other hospital representatives for proper assistance.
- Being proficient in the use of the hospital’s operating systems.
- Using Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. to track and monitor daily processes.
- Monitoring billing status through the use and generation of reports.
- Understanding and working with other departments that affect the revenue cycle (such as admitting, patient accounting, data processing, and billing) to ensure timely and accurate processing of patient’s accounts.
- Understanding pre-authorization/pre-certification requirements for all payers.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Adhering to all government regulations pertaining to patient privacy including HIPAA.
- Attend various department meetings.
- Provide assistance on various reporting aspects to the hospital and clinics.
- Contribute to the vision/culture of the most caring hospital.
Requirements:
A High School diploma, BS Degree preferred, but not required. Strong typing/10-key skills. Strong abilities in verbal and written communication. Organizational skills. Flexibility. Ability to schedule time effectively. Prioritize work appropriately. Ability to work as a team within and throughout departments/workgroups. Positive attitude. Commitment to quality improvement efforts. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. May require periodic lifting of up to 20 pounds. Requires sitting for extended periods.
